Reaction time is how quickly an auto-darkening lens switches from light to dark after detecting an arc, usually measured in milliseconds. Faster reaction times provide better eye protection from sudden arc exposure. Why it matters: Faster reaction time reduces flash exposure and eye strain, making welding safer during repeated arc starts. It is an important spec when comparing helmet quality
